We Spoke with Kim who is the heart of Dooley Designs
How many years have you been in business?
I have been in business for four years.
What inspired you to start/purchase/work with this business?
Friends and family have asked me to decorate, stage, and choose paint colors for as long as I can remember. One day, a colleague asked me to redesign her entire home because she had no idea where to start and felt embarrassed to have people over. She said, “I’ll pay you for it!” I was so excited by the experience that I decided to open my own business.
What has been your biggest success to date?
Every project has been fulfilling because I feel so energized and excited for the reveal at the end—it makes it all worth it. Each space I design is a reflection of the individual and is tailored to serve a specific purpose.
That said, I feel the Wesley Foundation Prayer Room fulfilled me the most. I met with Kristia Oney, the Associate Director, and she shared her vision for the space, including tactile items like a singing bowl for meditation. She gave me free rein, and that’s when I do my best work. I wanted the room to radiate serenity, creating a place where students could gather, support one another, and pray. It turned out even better than expected and now provides a healing, uplifting atmosphere.
Designing the conference room at the WorkIT Coworking Center was also a surprising success. Kristen Hadley, the owner, told me to do whatever I wanted—just make it inviting. Again, having creative freedom allowed the ideas to flow and come together beautifully. I’ve enjoyed all the positive feedback and seeing the space used frequently.
I love what I do every day and feel incredibly proud when a client walks into their new space with pride and excitement. What I do goes far beyond selecting paint colors and lighting—it's about transforming lives by improving how people feel in their home or work environment. My mission is to deeply understand my clients' needs and create that perfect "Wow!" factor they’ll love.
What inspires you to hit the ground running each morning?
What excites me most is getting to use my creativity every day and knowing I’ll help clients move from feeling stuck to feeling calm. More than anything, I love seeing someone happy in a space they previously avoided or didn’t enjoy.
What's an interesting fact about your business that most people don't know?
I also select color palettes for the exteriors of homes and commercial spaces.
As a member of WorkIT Coworking Center, how does being a member help you?
WorkIT Coworking Center has helped my business tremendously with visibility. Kristen Hadley and Jackie Padgett developed my website, which has helped my business stand out—it’s both beautiful and professional. Jackie also manages my social media marketing on Facebook and Instagram. I love the consistent visual identity she uses to promote all the services I offer.
The WorkIT community is warm and welcoming. Designing the conference room was especially fun because the members who were there while I worked were supportive and excited to watch the space evolve. I also enjoy the monthly Lunch and Learns—they’ve taught me so much.
When you're not working, what is your favorite thing to be doing?
I enjoy Zumba and line dancing. I also love ziplining—my three adult kids get a real kick out of that! Cooking and throwing dinner parties are also favorite pastimes, especially decorating the table with my unique tableware and decor.
