Clocks Change on March 9th - A Quick History of DST
Daylight Saving Time started in 1918 to save fuel during World War I, but the U.S. didn’t standardize it until 1966 with April-to-October shifts. After a messy 1974 year-round stint (dark mornings didn’t vibe), it moved to April’s first Sunday in 1987. Since 2007, it’s been March’s second Sunday to November’s first—energy savings, sure, but polls (like a 2022 YouGov survey) show 62% of Americans want it gone, tired of the clock flip-flop. Love it or hate it, we spring ahead March 9th!
